Lighthouse G-SPOT Playoff Preview
Last post of the season kids – the playoffs are here minus
a few make-up games. It’s time to pull up your skirts and grab your kickballs, because
this time we’re playing for keeps. Here is one last power ranking, and then the
rest can be settled on the field. We want to thank Kristen and Scorliss for
allowing us to do this, and also wanted to thank the six or seven of you that
actually read this. In all honesty though – hopefully we didn't offend anyone –
this was meant in good fun, and 99% of this was created through alcohol, bad
jokes and a severe lack of creativity. If there are still some of you who are
truly offended, then buy us a beer and we’ll call it even.
Without further ado, a playoff preview for all your viewing pleasure.
[[[PLAYOFF POWER RANKINGS]]]
#1 Eastbound and Down – Minus the Week 8 forfeit that this
team had to put down on paper due to a lack of numbers, this team has cruised
through the regular season, and posted an impressive league-leading five wins on
the season. They had one tough week against RAB, ending in a tie, but there is
no doubt that this team is the favorite going into the playoffs, although it’s
hard to argue against a potential upset given the log jam of teams that are
closely on their heels.
#2 Roll Another Bunt – This team has coasted from impressive
victory to impressive victory, however, had one disappointing showing during Week
6, earning them the second spot in the rankings (where they have remained for a
better part of the season). A lot of analysts are speculating this team could
come home with the championship, but only if they can keep their spirits lifted
and hopes high long enough for a grueling playoff run.
#3 Smoosh Moosh Panthers – After 8 weeks of kickball, it’s
still difficult to tell which team will show up when the panthers take the
field. They've looked brilliant at times (Week 6 against SBB), and then again,
downright awful (Week 4 against TDP). They've still managed to string together
an impressive four wins against some quality opponents, and are poised for a
strong run in the playoffs after an inspiring second half of the season.
#4 Swamp Donkeys – It is tough to put into words the story
of the Swamp Donkeys season. The team was clinging onto life after starting off
with two consecutive losses, lost their team mascot in a drunken bar brawl, but
throughout all that adversity, has managed to go undefeated since, stringing
together four consecutive victories. There isn’t a hotter team in the league
right now, which should draw some attention for the top teams come playoff
time.
#5 Saved By the Ball – After a strong performance at the
start of the season, the SBB’s have limped into the playoffs, going 0-1-2 in
their last three games. If they can channel their performance in Week 5, in
which they posted the first mercy rule victory of the Lighthouse Spring 2013
season, this team can certainly walk away with the championship.
#6 Team Death Pig – When you look at TDP’s record, you see a
team that couldn’t put the pieces
together, going 3-4 with one of the league’s worst -26 run differential,
however, they've taken down some quality opponents in SMP in Week 4 and RAB in
Week 6. This team definitely should not be underestimated in the playoffs,
where any team can steal a victory.
#7 Tinderellas – We’re
still trying to wrap our head around how this team could have a +9 run
differential but still lose four out of six of their games. They have yet to string
together consecutive victories, which does not bode well for the playoffs,
where back-to-back-to-back victories means champagne showers, landing the TD’s
at #7.
#8 Brews on First – Brews on First began the season with
four consecutive losses, however, has yet to lose a game in the month of June.
Sometimes all that matters is getting hot at the right time, and in the
playoffs, the records are thrown out the window, so we will have to wait and
see.
#9 I Am A Kick James Pitch – Posting a 0% win percentage,
with a staggering total of five out of seven forfeits, it is no surprise IAAKJP rounds
out this list in the basement.
