Week 2 Superhero Rankings

Week 2 Rankings

If you don’t remember or weren’t reminded Friday morning, we opened the kickball season last week. I’d like to congratulate everyone who came out for tapping the bar out of Miller Lite’s. I haven’t seen Elena that angry since Shaker took the “Best Mexican Player” title from her when she ruined her ACL. Bez set the bar early this season by getting iced at least 5 times, and puking in a urinal (video below). I think we can do better this week everyone. Brian, Wade, and Beth (from It Ain’t Gonna Kick Itself) had interesting rookie Thursdays last week. Brian lost his phone, and scraped up his hand in a steam roller incident. Wade somehow managed to lose his shoes. And Beth spent all day Friday puking. I remember my first kickball Thursday (NOT). Meanwhile, I made it to work no problem on Friday and dominated my 9 hour shift #veteran. This week is Tacky Clothes week. So dress like an idiot. Come out to the bar and stay out late. You may get to see Scotty and his mini have a dance off and try to swing and Mike Cobb is rumored to be coming out of retirement at OPT to sing that song he always sings. I'm sure things will get weird, so I hope you were all smart like me and took a late start on Friday. Hope you enjoy acronyms. On the the rankings!

#9. Richard Don't Know (0-1, Last Gm: L 5-0 to NDW) (Last Wk: 9, NC)
The only way RDK was getting within 5 runs of NDW was with a forfeit. I'm sure Mac made a lot of money betting (RDK +11) on this game, then not showing up. Pretty sweet strategy only having 10 on the roster when you can have 11 in the field (Hand Made Love uses this strategy when TShaw is on the field). They still had a better showing at the bar than some teams, which is really all that matters.

#8. It Ain't Gonna Kick Itself (0-1, Last Gm: L 5-6 to TM) (Last Wk: 8, NC)
The worst acronym in kickball (IAGKI) played a pretty solid game against T'keela Mockingbirds last week. Solid showing from the rookies (Wade, Brian, Casey, Tim) and the vets chipped in here and there. In the end, defense and throwing the ball around did us in. Great news for us, Casey got cleats this week. Glad we don't have to watch you Fred Flinstoneing all over the place again.

#7. T'Keela Mockingbirds (1-0, Last Gm: W 6-5 vs. IAGKI) (Last Wk: 7, NC)
Pretty sloppy win for a team with better talent than was put on display. Stevey almost lived up to his promise of keeping quiet all season by lasting an entire inning. Still a personal best and something to grow on buddy! Meg Martin was the obvious MVP going like 8-8 with 2 home runs or something like that.

#6. Hoff Constantly (0-1, Last Gm: L 0-4 to MNM) (Last Wk: 4, -2)
Not entirely sure what happened to the Hoffs last week. Did you guys get too drunk and leave after the 3rd inning? Too much clam jam? Was Steph Salvas leaving so devastating that you forgot how to play kickball? Talking to Joey after the game he said and this is not an exact quote: "Those guys were terrible. How could you rank them so high?" Hope you all blacked out on Velvet Elvises last week and forgot about the game because you're probably going to kick the shit of my team this week. You're welcome.

#5. Muff N Men (1-0, Last Gm: W 4-0 vs. HC) (Last Wk: 7, +2)
Real impressive win from the Muffs last week over Hoff Constantly. Glad your catching skills far exceed your reffing skills (I'm still sore over that walk, I need those fantasy points to make up for all of the runs and losses I'm going to pile up). The offense put up some runs on a normally stingy defense. Or did the Hoffs throw the ball around and make errors? I wouldn't know because I didn't see the game and you don't submit recaps. Congrats on the bump up though!

#4. Beast From the East (0-1, Last Gm: L 2-3 to HML) (Last Wk: 5, +1)
Had a couple close calls at first went the other way, we could have had a huge week 1 upset. But, they were the right calls and BFE came up a touch short against Hand Made Love. Some positives from the game: Bez was solid at charger but better at first base reffing. Shaker got on base by bunting (with a man on 3rd, 1 out, and 3 girls in the order after him in a game they lost by a run). Cobb's looking trim and agile at first base. Francis looks like he took all the weight Cobb lost and injected it into his arms. And after week 2 you'll have the 2 best teams behind you in the schedule (and be 0-2).

#3. Pitch Please (0-0, Last Gm: Bye) (Last Wk: 3, NC)
PP was on the bye week for week 1. Can't really justify moving them up or down in the rankings based on whatever Lighthouse team they kicked the shit out of. They will have a good test this week against Hand Made Love.

#2. Hand Made Love (1-0, Last Gm: W 3-2 vs. BFE) (Last Wk: 2, NC)
Solid walk off win against BFE this week. The defense was a tad rusty giving up 2 runs, but the offense tripled their normal output. Even TShaw got on base. Steve apparently played so poorly that Bez had this to say: "Steve Ginn isn't that good at catcher. Dorsey is way better than him." That may have had a shred of relevance had they not just lost. Great strategy paying off the refs with jello shots this season.

#1. No Dead Weight (1-0, Last Gm: W 5-0 vs. RDK) (Last Wk: 1, NC)
NDW managed to win by legit forfeit this week for a change, thus sparing RDK a white washing. John Ho made an interesting bet with Bez last week that I'm sure he won't honor. If BFE doesn't make the finals this season, Bez has to play for NDW next season on the bench. I added that last part.

If you'd like to send recaps (so I can plagiarize it and call it my own) to avoid me guessing how the game went. Send an email to mainegmot@gmail.com

A Look Ahead

Early Games
Beast From the East vs. NDW
It doesn't get any easier for BFE after losing a heart breaker last week. I'm not even sure it even matters that half of NDW won't be there this week. As long as they field enough they should win. The only real question in this game is whether NDW let's BFE wear their custom shirts... NDW rolls 4-1.

Hoff Constantly vs. It Ain't Gonna Kick Itself
Steph dumped her former team and their drink of choice for reasons unknown to me, but we are glad to have her. She returns this week batting lead off to reek havoc on her old team. The Hoffs will be looking to rebound after being laughed out of Payson last week. They probably will and I hate picking my team to win.. 5-2.

Richard Don't Know vs. Who Cares?
Can you forfeit a week that doesn't count? Bye week for Dick Dunno!

Late Games
Pitch Please vs. Hand Made Love
Game of the week! PP will be playing their first competitive game of the season and HML just took care of Beast with the Least last week. HML's outfield will be tested with PP's big boots all in the line up. Hard to resist those meatballs that pitcher throws. PP may be a bit rusty with this being their first real game of the season. HML wins 3-1

T'keela Mockingbirds vs. Muff N Men
This should be a good game to watch. The Muffs may have overachieved last week (or not) and TM didn't really look all that impressive. The team that makes the least mistakes will win this one. The Muffs are generally good at limiting that. Muff N Men win 4-2.

Last week 3-1
