First Round Predictions
The playoffs are here! I know the schedule says "Rain/make up week", but I assure you that we are at the point of the season where the games matter. So that means that ref abuse will be at an all time high and we'll probably see some tension and arguing... and that's just from the Lighthouse league. I'm gonna keep things fairly simple this week because we're just weeding out the losers.
Play In Games
These guys didn't meet in the regular season but were the only teams to forfeit. PP has shown flashes of skill and is by far the superior team. The only thing to worry about is if they show up at all (see: last week). PBK's got a lot of heart and at least attempts to field a full roster every week. If PP shows up they should win easily 8-0.
The UntouchaBalls vs. Kick Tease
Sparkles bunch tends to drink far too much and not really give two shits about the regular season. Then, they seem to flip the switch and become a pretty tough low seed. Neither of these teams met in the regular season either and coincidentally would have played tonight anyway if we actually made up our rain out. Kick Tease gave up the most runs this season and can definitely put the boots to the ball, but I don't envision that being enough this week. Balls win 7-2.
Round 1
#1. Hand Made Love vs. #8. Pocket Pounders
Granted this game isn't set in stone yet, but does that really matter? HML should roll tide over whoever they play in the first round. 9-0.
#2. No Dead Weight vs. #7. The UntouchaBalls
Here's an intriguing game. These two teams almost always meet in the playoffs and granted NDW always wins but almost every game seems to be a battle. There was the bottom of the 5th walk off one season. The fly ball lost in the lights. Wrongbasegate. The warm up game should help the Balls out immensely as well. NDW beat the shit out of the Balls in the season opener but that shouldn't have any bearing this week. Hell, it's 3:30 and I haven't cracked a beer yet for the first Thursday this season. I expect this one to be the same story different chapter. NDW should roll in a close one 4-2.
#3. Muff N Puff vs. #6. We're Coming on Home
This is a rematch of last week and the Muffs put on a clinic. KaThor's bunch keeps letting me down on a weekly basis. I keep hearing the excuses that they haven't had their full team, our new players are still getting the hang of it, Talbot sucks, Shaker's on his period. Muff N Puff have played a solid season even though they really didn't play any of the top teams. Joey's been killing it and losing the dead weight from last season has helped. Maybe picking against WCoH will light a fire under their asses. Puffs roll, and win 5-2.
#4. Rum Riot vs. #5. Chug Norris
RR rebounded well after it's first week defeat but saw their streak end at HML's hands last week. CN is another team that likes to relax and show different looks all season before putting their best foot forward in the playoffs. Mike Flo is one of the best pitchers in the league when he shows up and matches well with their solid infield. Both teams have strong defenses and inconsistent offenses so I'm feeling a 1-0 or 2-1 game. RR always seems to win in the first round and I knows it's lame to pick all the higher seeds but there's a pretty big gap between the top teams and everyone else. RR wins 2-1.
